Saturday, April 9th, 2011: Edinburgh: Greyfriar's Bobby & Museum of Scotland

We started the morning visiting The Greyfriars Booby Statute and graveyard. The story goes that John gray was a police officer who was required to have a watch dog with him on duty. So John selected a Skye Terrier and named it Bobby. They worked together for 5 years before john died of tuberculosis. Upon being buried in Greyfriars Kirkyard, Bobby kept a vigil over his master for another 14 years before dying himself. They built a statue to him and later a tombstone.

Next we visited the Museum of Scotland (tried also to do the Royal Museum but it was closed for the next few months). It had a lot of neat thing to see, including Jackie Stewart’s racing car, that Brian tried to get in and drive. They had a very good hands on section for the kids and a dress up section.
